I had to listen to only one track to understand that this band is hailing from Switzerland. Think of bands like Krokus, (early) Gotthard and Shakra and you know what to expect from this fivesome, consisting of four males and one female.

The band was formed halfway the nineties and has been touring all over Switzerland under the name of Mines, thus establishing themselves as one of the country’s hottest live acts. No wonder they won a rock contest in their home country in the summer of last year!

“Unchain” was released domestically under the title of “Downstroke” late last year, before it was picked up by Georg Siegl from AOR / METAL HEAVEN. Now it’s released in much more countries than just Switzerland. What can you expect from “Unchain”? Well, what Tom, Ralph, Mike, Emi and Sämi are serving us is pure, no nonsense heavy rock ‘n’ foll. ‘Plug in and play’ is the motto of Unchain and they walk it like they talk it, nothing more nothing less! So, if you’re a lover of catchy melodies and crunchy riffs, this is an album that could keep you satisfied until AC/DC, Krokus or Shakra come up with something new.

AOR Heaven

After a lot of trouble inside the band and a change of the name, the album by Swiss rockers formerly known as MINES now hits the shelves under the banner of UNCHAIN. The long wait definitely was worth the wait as this is a cracker for fans of the typical Swiss hard rock style a la KROKUS & SHAKRA for sure. "Unchain" rocks with big balls! "Can Stay In Hell", the fast opener, leads the direction already and together with "Get It Live!" and "Dark City" will definitely rules every rock disco during the next wekks for sure. The band though also is capable of creating beautiful softer moments as shown on "Sabrina" for example. Overall, "Unchain" already is an almost perfect debut album so that this band definitely should be watched. Fans of the aforementioned bands definitely should give this a release a go - it rocks like hell!

The debut from Swiss rockers Unchain brings nothing new to the music business, straight ahead hard rock like a mix of Cinderella,Krokus and Ac Dc but not with the same classy songs. It´s an ok album and I bet they are a good cover band you can go out and watch at the clubs in Switzerland but their own material doesn´t excite me at all.

When it comes to non compromising rocknroll, bands like Backyard Babies and Beautiful Creatures has more to offer than Unchain.

The chorus on "Sabrina" sounds spooky close to "So lonely" with The Police....and that was the song I liked the most :-)

Buy it if you see it in a second hand shop!
